HDPE Formosa Plastics 8003

HDPE Formosa Plastics 8003 Resin

Material Introduction: HDPE Formosa Plastics 8003 is a high‑density polyethylene grade. With high rigidity, good chemical resistance and excellent environmental stress‑cracking resistance, it is widely used for containers and packaging requiring sufficient strength and durability.

Main Applications

Food & pharmaceutical containers: food vessels, fresh‑milk bottles, pharmaceutical cans. Non‑toxic, tasteless and odorless, compliant with FDA 21 CFR 177.1520 for food‑contact and pharmaceutical packaging.

Industrial containers & toolboxes: toolboxes and general‑purpose industrial containers.

Performance Parameters

Performance Category Test Item Test Method / Condition Value & Unit Remarks & Interpretation
Basic Properties Density ASTM D‑1505 0.958 g/cm³ HDPE grade with high hardness and good rigidity.
Melt Flow Rate (MFR) ASTM D‑1238 (190°C/2.16 kg) 0.25 g/10min Low MFR brings good melt strength, ideal for hollow blow molding to maintain product geometry.
Mechanical Properties Tensile Yield Strength ASTM D‑638 300‑310 kg/cm² (≈29.4‑30.4 MPa) High value represents good tensile‑deformation resistance and rigidity.
Tensile Strength at Break ASTM D‑638 320‑380 kg/cm² (≈31.4‑37.3 MPa) Maximum stress before fracture; slight deviation among different data sources.
Elongation at Break ASTM D‑638 1000 % Superb toughness and ductility; withstand heavy deformation without fracture.
Izod Notched Impact Strength ASTM D‑256 25 kg·cm/cm Indicator of impact‑resistance performance.
Hardness ASTM D‑2240 69 Shore D Provides certain surface scratch‑resistance.
Environmental Stress‑Cracking Resistance (ESCR) ASTM D‑1693 30 Hours Anti‑stress‑cracking performance under specified chemical environment; higher value preferred.
Thermal Properties Melting Point FPC method 134 ℃ Reference for processing‑temperature setting.
  Vicat Softening Temperature ASTM D‑1525 127 ℃ Heat‑resistance indicator.
Brittleness Temperature ASTM D‑746 <‑70 ℃ Retain toughness under ultra‑low temperature with excellent low‑temperature performance.

Injection‑Molding Process Parameters

Process Parameters Recommended Range Remarks & Interpretation
Drying Treatment Normally not required No drying needed under proper storage.
Melt Temperature 200‑260℃ For high‑molecular‑weight grades, adopt 200‑250℃.
Mold Temperature 50‑95℃ Higher mold temperature for wall thickness below 6 mm; lower mold temperature for wall thickness above 6 mm. Uniform cooling reduces shrinkage deviation.
Injection Pressure 700‑1050 bar
Injection Speed High‑speed injection recommended
Runner & Gate Runner diameter 4‑7.5 mm Keep runner length as short as possible. Various gate types are acceptable; gate length ≤0.75 mm. Hot‑runner molds are well‑suited.
