Injection Molding Parameters

Process Parameter Reference Range / Recommendation Remarks & Descriptions
Drying Treatment Normally unnecessary; dry at 70‑80°C for 2‑3 hours under improper storage conditions HIPS has low water absorption (generally below 0.1 %), drying is normally not required. Drying is recommended under high‑humidity environment, with regrind material added or abnormal storage.
Barrel Temperature 180‑220°C (or 190‑240°C) HP‑825T is a high‑flow grade; barrel temperature can be set at the lower‑to‑middle part of the range. Reference setting: rear zone 190°C, middle zone 200°C, front zone 205°C, nozzle 210°C.
Mold Temperature 20‑70°C (or 40‑60°C) Higher mold temperature helps reduce internal stress and improve surface gloss of molded parts.
Injection Pressure Medium‑to‑low (due to good flowability) Sufficient holding pressure, holding time and cooling time are required. Holding pressure is normally 90 % of injection pressure.
Injection Speed Medium‑to‑fast High flowability allows relatively fast injection speed. Excessively fast speed may cause flash; too slow speed leads to obvious weld lines. Start with medium speed.
Back Pressure 0.5‑1.0 MPa (general HIPS recommendation) Proper back pressure contributes to melt homogenization.
