Nylon Plastics Series

General‑Purpose Nylon

As the highest‑output and most widely‑used members of the nylon family, mainly PA6 and PA66. They feature high mechanical strength, excellent wear resistance, oil resistance and chemical‑solvent resistance, and are extensively adopted for mechanical components such as gears and bearings, as well as automotive under‑hood parts. Nevertheless, they share one major drawback: relatively high moisture absorption, which causes shifts in dimensional stability and electrical insulation performance under service conditions.

Long‑Chain Nylon

An excellent solution to the high‑water‑absorption issue of general‑purpose nylon. Representative grades include PA11, PA12, PA610 and China’s original PA1010. Thanks to high carbon‑atom ratios in molecular chains, this series stands out for extremely low water absorption and outstanding dimensional stability, maintaining high dimensional accuracy even in humid environments. Compared with general‑purpose nylon, it is softer and lower in density, with superior low‑temperature toughness. For instance, PA12 retains good toughness at ‑70 °C. Therefore, it is well‑suited for products demanding high flexibility and environmental resistance, such as automotive brake hoses, fuel delivery pipes and cable sheaths.

High‑Temperature Nylon

Also known as PPA (polyphthalamide). PA6T, PA9T and PA10T fall into this category. Benzene‑ring structures are incorporated into molecular chains to deliver exceptional heat resistance with melting points generally above 300 °C, enabling resistance to high temperatures during lead‑free soldering of electronic components. They also inherit advantages of low water absorption and high mechanical strength. PA6T requires copolymerization with other monomers for processability due to its excessively high melting point; PA9T is famous for ultra‑low water absorption and outstanding chemical resistance; PA10T contains partial raw materials derived from castor oil, combining high heat resistance with partial bio‑based properties and balanced comprehensive performance. They are mainly applied to heat‑resistant electronic parts including SMT electronic connectors and LED reflector brackets.

Bio‑Based Nylon

Typical representatives are PA11, PA56, PA10T and PA1010. Part or all of their raw materials originate from renewable resources such as castor oil and glucose, granting them inherent low‑carbon and eco‑friendly attributes. Their performance is comparable to conventional petroleum‑based nylon. For example, PA11 combines flexibility and low‑moisture‑absorption features of long‑chain nylon. Accordingly, they are gaining expanding applications in automotive, consumer electronics and other industries with growing sustainability requirements.

Special & Modified Nylon

Transparent nylon destroys crystallization by introducing special monomers to form amorphous polymer structures, achieving light transmittance above 90 % for optical lenses and medical‑device components. PA46 is a high‑crystallinity heat‑resistant nylon that preserves high strength across a broad temperature range. PA MXD6 is polymerized from m‑xylylenediamine and adipic acid. It combines high rigidity with high barrier properties against oxygen and carbon dioxide, and is frequently used for high‑performance food‑packaging materials.
