Conventional PS features a low heat‑deflection temperature (70‑98 ℃), which limits its applications under high‑temperature conditions. Heat‑resistant modification aims to raise its glass‑transition temperature and heat‑deflection temperature. Major modification approaches include copolymerization modification (e.g. copolymerization with α‑methylstyrene to upgrade heat‑resistance grade), cross‑linking modification and inorganic filling modification such as nano‑particle composite compounding. Moreover, blending PS with high‑heat‑resistance engineering plastics like polycarbonate (PC) can effectively improve its thermal stability.
Main Applications
Heat‑resistant PS is suitable for scenarios subject to certain thermal load, including microwave‑safe food containers, heat‑resistant electrical‑appliance housings (components close to heat sources), automotive instrument panels and peripheral parts of lighting fixtures.
