PA6 (Polyamide 6)
PA6 features relatively high mechanical strength and favorable toughness, along with excellent wear resistance and self‑lubricity. Its melting point is around 215‑220 °C. It has a wide processing‑temperature range and lends itself well to molding. Compared with PA66, PA6 delivers superior impact resistance and solvent resistance, yet it suffers from higher water absorption. This characteristic brings about dimensional variation and partial mechanical‑property fluctuation of finished parts under changing ambient‑humidity conditions.
Main Applications
Fiber products: the largest consumption segment, accounting for roughly 70% of total demand. Widely processed into textiles such as undergarments, stockings and sportswear; industrial yarn including tire cord fabrics and air‑bag fabrics; as well as carpet yarns.
Engineering‑plastic applications: benefiting from good mechanical performance, PA6 is made into diverse industrial components, including wear‑resistant transmission parts like bearings, gears and pulleys. Within the automotive sector, it is adopted for engine hood covers, intake manifolds, fuel hoses and other parts for metal‑replacement lightweighting.
Films & packaging: PA6 can be fabricated into biaxially oriented polyamide film (BOPA). Possessing outstanding barrier performance and puncture resistance, such films are mainly used as packaging materials for food and medical supplies.
