Type Application Scenarios Main Specs (Roller Diameter × Length) Main Features
Lab / Small‑size Open Mill Formula R&D, material testing, teaching demo, small‑batch sampling Φ120×320mm to Φ230×620mm (4‑9 inch) Compact structure, flexible operation, small batch capacity (0.5‑6 kg/batch), high temperature control accuracy, easy cleaning & material change.
Industrial Open Mill Mass production: plasticating, mixing, warming, sheeting Φ350×900mm to Φ650×2100mm Robust construction, large throughput (15‑150 kg/batch), high motor power (40‑115 kW), capable of continuous operation.

Specifications & Core Parameters

Open mill size is defined as roller diameter × working roller length. Different sizes correspond to different technical parameters.

Supplementary Notes: Speed Ratio: Front roll runs slower than rear roll to generate shear force. Higher ratio delivers stronger shear yet more frictional heat. Roll Gap: Adjustable clearance between two rollers ranging from 0.1 mm to 10 mm, controlling final material thickness and shear intensity.

Functional & Structural Classification

Specialized sub‑types for specific applications: ‑ Standard Type: For basic plasticating, mixing and warming. Model prefix: XK (rubber), SK (plastic), X(S)K for rubber‑plastic dual‑use. ‑ Rubber Cracker (XKP): Grooved roller surface for breaking bulk raw rubber for downstream processing. ‑ Warming Mill (XKA): Heats and homogenizes cold rubber compound, feeding calender or extruder.

Main Features

‑ Simple and durable: Composed of rollers, frame, gap‑adjustment unit, transmission and heating‑cooling system; low failure rate, easy maintenance. ‑ Flexible operation & visual inspection: Open‑frame design allows real‑time material observation and flexible process adjustment (triangular folding, cutting operation etc.). ‑ Wide adaptability: Processes plastics (PVC, PE), rubber, filler modification, blending and masterbatch preparation. ‑ High safety requirements: Modern mills are equipped with emergency pull rod, knee‑operated reverse, emergency stop and other multi‑safety protections for operator safety. ‑ Complete temperature control: Electric / steam heating plus water cooling, precise temperature control from ambient to 300 °C for diverse materials.

Selection Guidelines

‑ Confirm application: Lab R&D sampling or mass workshop production, determines small‑size or industrial model. ‑ Confirm output: Select specification by batch capacity and motor power referring to batch‑loading table above. ‑ Confirm material: General plastic, engineering plastic or rubber, defines required temperature range and speed ratio. ‑ Prioritize safety: Verify complete safety devices such as emergency brake and knee‑operated reverse, non‑negotiable requirement.
